Job Description
Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is searching for two full-time Financial and Housing Counselors to work out of our Newport News Office and Norfolk office. The primary job of a Financial and Housing Counselor is to provide clients with professional financial and/or housing counseling services. Counselors will advise and educate clients on a variety of financial topics and individually tailor an action plan that addresses their specific issues and concerns.
The ideal candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, working knowledge of finances/credit, and understanding default and loss mitigation solutions. An effective problem solver and be able to convey suggestions/ideas in a constructive, non-judgmental manner.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Two or more years of experience in the financial industry preferred.
Basic proficiency with calculator, Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook, and general filing and administrative tasks.
HUD certification preferred (If not certified, candidate will work towards certification within 60 days paid by the company)
Excellent organizational skills and time management abilities.
Duties:
Compose educational curriculums in support of community outreach and educational services.
Meet with clients seeking assistance to develop budget, determine eligibility for assistance, and ability to identify crisis and provide appropriate and timely referrals.
Ability to review and properly handle confidential client information, materials, and sensitive issues according to all state and federal requirements.
Ability to adhere to and follow HUD Federal regulations and other funder reporting guidelines that include but are not limited to: Case documentation, data entry, client action steps, client follow up and closing protocols.
Some regional travel required.
