Financial and Housing Counselor (Full Time – 40 hours)
Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is searching for a qualified full-time Financial and Housing Counselor to work out of our Virginia Beach Office located on Princess Anne Rd. The position will primarily see clients in need of financial assistance. The primary job of a Financial and Housing Counselor is to provide clients with professional financial and/or housing counseling services. Counselors will advise and educate clients on a variety of financial topics and use professional discretion and judgment to help clients set up and implement an individually tailored Action Plan that addresses their specific issues and concerns. To fulfill these roles the counselor must have good interpersonal skills, possess a working knowledge of finances/credit, understand default and loss mitigation solutions, be an effective problem-solver, and be able to convey suggestions/ideas in a constructive, nonjudgmental manner.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or have two or more years’ experience in the financial industry, and have the ability to work on projects independently. HUD certification preferred (if not certified, candidate will work towards certification within 60 days) ability to speak and understand Spanish a plus. The candidate will meet with clients seeking rental assistance to develop a budget, determine eligibility for assistance, process all paperwork and work with clients and landlords through the entire process. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook. Candidate will adhere to and follow HUD Federal regulations and other funder reporting guidelines that include appropriate case documentation, data entry, client action steps, client follow up and closing protocols.
