Job Description

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is searching for a part time Companion Care Worker to work for 12-36 hours per week. The Primary job of the Companion Care Worker is to provide companionship to clients enrolled in CCEVA’s Companion Care Program for them to stay socially engaged and to provide assistance with their daily activities to remain in their home comfortably and safely. The compassion Care Program provides non- medical, in-home support services such as home management (light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and trash removal), meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping and running errands for clients, transporting clients in your car to run errands and shopping, and medication reminders.

Requirements

• Minimum of two or more years of recent experience in caring for the elderly. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• First Aid/ CPR certification is preferred
• Be dependable, People Oriented, Pays attention to Detail, and can work independently
• Must have an insured vehicle and a valid Virginia Driver’s License in good standing
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Able to read, write, understand, and communicate written instructions
• Physical requirements of the job as outlined in orientation such as ability to bend over, ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift 10 lbs., push a vacuum, and climb stairs
• Must have a working telephone with voicemail
• Clean background check
• Negative TB test
• Negative Drug test
• Completion of 16- hour training in first year, and then 8 hours training yearly
• Must abide by CCEVA’s policies regarding client confidentiality
• Acceptance of Catholic Social Teachings and CCEVA values

Duties

• Provide companionship to clients, engage in social activities with clients such as reminiscing, playing board games or cards, or assisting clients in hobbies they enjoy
• Provide assistance with Household tasks which include but are not limited to: Meal Planning and Preparation, Light housekeeping (such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, washing dishes, kitchen maintenance, cleaning primary bathroom, etc.), doing personal laundry and linens, making the bed, organizing, pet care, plant care, and picking up/taking out the garbage.
• Provide reminders to take medications
• Assist with errands and shopping
• Transport clients for shopping and errands in personal vehicle or client’s vehicle if available. Employees are reimbursed for mileage incurred when driving clients in personal vehicles
• Prompt clients to engage in personal care and grooming
• Prompt clients to use safe transferring techniques and assistive technology
• Document details of every visit in the CCEVA Companion Care Notebook that is kept in the client’s home
• Must ensure that Program Coordinator has accurate contact information at all times
• Notify Program Coordinator of any suspicion of APS issues
• Notify Program Coordinator of any changes in the set schedule with client
• Notify Program Coordinator of any changes in the Worker’s living arrangements or
• status of health or welfare that may affect the Companion Care Client
• Notify Program Coordinator immediately of any problems arising during time spent with Companion Care Client
• Notify Program Coordinator immediately if clients’ health declines and needs more care than program provides.
